En mi caso te diré que es un caos, escribo lo que surge cada mañana, lo que aparece porque según escribo con mi boli colorinchi parece que yo esté en un segundo plano y sea mi inconsciente quien lo haga. Es raro, pero así lo siento. La cuestión es que como lo hago por puro placer, jamás me detuve a pensar a quién o porque sino el para qué? Escribo para sentirme en paz, en calma. Para desnudar el alma, sin miedo y porque me aporta tanto que me merece la pena. Siempre digo lo mismo, saberse leído es maravilloso, pero incomparable con el placer de escribir ✨
Te entiendo, algo parecido me sucede cuando me siento frente a mi diario. Escribo lo que siento y no me detengo a pensar en nada más. Al terminar, me siento más ligero, como si algo dentro de mi se hubiese quedado en las palabras que solté. Escribir me alivia, es casi una necesidad diaria ✨
Es un texto que llevaba mucho tiempo pensando. Me intriga cómo cada escritor se ha abierto camino, qué le hacía distinto, mejor o popular. A más investigué sobre el asunto, más me di cuenta de que, en muchas ocasiones, no es que hayan sido mejores que otros, es que abrieron caminos nuevos y por eso son recordados.
Es la lección con la que me quedo, hay muchas opciones para ser diferente y suele ser mejor alternativa que tratar de ser mejor que el resto en lo mismo.

Your work is really original, in fact, the use of new technologies to create images to accompany the story makes it even more distinctive. How did the idea come up?

I'm honoured that that you read my story! The idea happened in 1978 - I put excerpts on the back of a line of greeting cards - but didn't finish the story until now because the greeting cards took over my life. The story is rooted in my own capture by the ELF (Eritrean Liberation Front) and my feelings about captivity and rescue. The images I am creating are part of my experiment with using the tool AI. They are not easy to create and it has been an enjoyable challenge to get what I want and introduce some consistency as well. As for your other question, I am trying to learn Spanish - I can read it pretty well, write very slowly and have to think A LOT. Speaking is a problem because I have no one to talk to. Yesterday two women stopped me while I was on my daily walk and they spoke to me in Spanish (almost everyone here speaks Spanish) - I was so disappointed in my response - ONE word they said threw me completely off and suddenly I couldn't construct a sentence in Spanish...but I did give them directions as only a gringo could have. (they were lost here on the Reservation). I came home and wrote out the conversation in Spanish and discovered that I need to try harder next time.
I was. It was terrifying initially, then pretty mundane. I painted the inside of a Mosque during my time there in a tiny village. Rescue was pretty quick due to my status. There were seven us. I still go to counseling when available. The experience changed my life completely and forever.
Thanks. Funny though, I never, for even a second, felt brave. I felt frozen, if anything. Even with a rifle to my neck, kneeling before a firing squad. So frozen, that when they did not shoot, all I could feel was frozen, not even relieved.

Were you captured by the Eritrean liberation front? I remember you once told me you were in Eritrea, but I didn't know more. Unbelievable story.
